Trams

A quick summary of driving rules for Melbourne streets, mainly looking at trams.

A few quick questions for a real estate agent

I spoke to a few agents today that work in the areas we’re looking to move into (Armadale/Malvern). Just some simple questions to put my mind at ease.

How quickly does property go off market?

In Armadale, almost immediately. For houses between $450-$650 per week, it’s common that it’d go within a few days of listing, and in most cases, there can be over 20 people apply. Best bet is to get in early and try to out bid others on price or length of the lease.

How long does the application process usually take?

Most properties take 2-3 days. But if there’s a lot of applicants, it can take up to 5 days.

Are most properties available straight away?

Most are available within two weeks. Best that you start applying three weeks before you want to move in - just to be safe.

What’s the general consensus with pets?

It’s common for people to rent with pets in Melbourne - and most land lords don’t have a problem with it. However, if it’s a popular property most landlords would usually select those without pets first.

Rental Guides

The Consumer Affairs website has load sof information about tenants rights in Victoria.

On the initial review of their rental guide it doesn’t look like there’s a great difference between the VIC and NSW policies.

Motorbike License

From initial inspection it looks like the Victorian rules for Motorbike licenses are nearly identical to those in New South Wales.

More information can be found on the VicRoads website, along with a list of approved learners bikes.

Glad to see most of the bikes I’m looking at getting are on the list.
